Three Hot Yoga Studios Coming to a Town Near You

The mercury hasn’t risen above single-digits lately, but believe it or not, there’s a heat wave about to sweep through Bergen County—in the form of three new hot yoga studios. Developed in the 70’s by guru Bikram Choudhury, this red-hot yoga style takes participants through a series of poses in a scorching—but safe—100-plus-degree room.

Fire Shaper Yoga Tenafly (Opening March 14th, 20 Washington Street, Tenafly, 201-266-8004)
Thara Prashad knows a thing or two about sweat. After all, she’s married to superstar hip-hop artist Jay Sean. So it’s no surprise this former model, actress, musician turned-devoted yogi decided to open the first U.S. franchise to carry the Fire Shaper name.

What to Expect: Quality instructors who will make you feel the burn, thanks to Fire Shaper’s unique heating system. The sleek, modern space will also feature a smoothie bar, healthy snacks and free WiFi. “We are looking to create a beautiful community space where you can escape from the stress of your day from the moment you walk through the doors,” says Prashad.

Extra Offerings: Pre-natal and Yin-style workshops, as well as classes specially designed for kids.

The U Yoga (Opening end of Feburary, Open House Tours going on now, Boulder Run Shopping Center, 327 Franklin Ave, Ste 8, Wyckoff)
Some like it hot, and some like it HOT! Like its name implies, U Yoga is all about the indivdual, which is why they offer three different degrees of hot yoga offerings—85, 95, and 105—so you can choose what’s right for you. Rather keep it cool? They’ve got tons of classes for every level and temperature preference, so you can the workout that’s right for you.

What to Expect: The U features a state-of-the-art heating system and boasts PEM flooring, which is a slip-resistant, waterproof, shock-absorbing, and anti-microbial. Afterwards, cool off in the studios comfortable changing room, complete with showers.

Extra Offerings: A variety of additional class styles are on the menu, including Flow, Hatha, Restorative, and the brand’s signature “Rock ‘N Flow” and Sports Core Yoga.

Real Hot Yoga (Opening late March, 88 Engle Street, Englewood, 513-226-4632)
Get ready to sweat! Real Hot promises humidity levels of 40-50%, which prevents perspiration from evaporating. What’s so good about that? When perspiration sits on the skin it allows your body’s cooling system to do what it’s intended to do—maintain a safe internal body temperature. Plus, their unique UV air filtration system removes 99% of germs, viruses, and odors, so you won’t get a whiff of your neighbor.

What to Expect: In addition to some of the largest classrooms we’ve ever seen (more than 1,000 square feet!), the Englewood location will have multiple showers and lockers on a different floor than the studio and retail section and our yoga studio will be larger than most every other hot yoga studio in Bergen County. 

Extra Offerings: Offers a variety of class options from Power Yoga to Ashtanga, to a set sequence similar to Bikram to Bootcamp to their Yin Yoga which is more restorative and therapeutic.  Truly something for every ability and Yoga preference.
