New Healthy Restaurant in Ridgewood: Samba Bowls Opens

Restaurants  /

After a summer’s worth of impromptu trips with the kids to the local ice cream parlor, the hubby’s world-famous burgers from the backyard grill and oh-what’s-one-more-glass of rosé, our bodies are desperately in need of a reboot. So we’re super-psyched about Samba Bowls, a healthy new restaurant option in Ridgewood.

Specializing in made-to-order meal bowls and smoothies, Samba Bowls is out to revolutionize on-the-go-eating. Its army? Nothing but fresh fruits, veggies, super-food staples like kale, chia seeds, organic acai berries and all sorts of other 100 percent natural and unprocessed ingredients. Folks, this is feel-good food at its best!

We recently marched—er, drove—over to Samba Bowls’ new Ridgewood location for a little basic training, ordering up their four most popular bowls—Green Power, Pink Paradise, Purple Brazilian and White PB&N—each $10 a pop. The colorful fruits that topped each of them were only a hint of the delicious fillings that were to come. All were presented beautifully, with drizzles of toppings like coconut shreds, natural peanut butter and Nutella, and we almost felt bad diving into the layers of goodness that lay underneath. Of course, we soldiered on and were introduced to a host of power proteins, organic granolas, coconut and almond milks, and other ambitious—and delicious!—ingredients.

By the time we got to the bottoms of our bowls, we were ready to enlist.
