Legoland New York Set to Open in 2019

Day Trips  /
“Everything is awesome” just got a whole lot awesomer with the announcement that Legoland New York is slated to be the largest Legoland theme park in the country, with a target opening date of 2019!

The proposed $800 million project park will take over 500 acres of existing farmland in Goshen, NY and will include 50 amusement park rides, themed attractions, a 250-room hotel, and possibly even a Sea Life aquarium. Officials expect the park to attract 1 - 2 million visitors each year, and while the hotel is expected to be open year-round, the theme park will be open during warmer monthly only, April through October.

More than twice the size of the (current largest) Legoland in Florida, Legoland NY is expected to bring jobs, tourism, and economic development to the area, and Governor Andrew Cuomo has already allocated $3.1 million to developer Merlin Entertainments Group for the park. Not everyone thinks the proposed Legoland is awesome, however, there is already a “Stop Legoland in Goshen NY” Facebook page with about 1,000 likes.

No matter where you stand, if you’re curious about the park’s development plans, or know someone who might be interested in a job, Legoland officials will answer questions and outline employment opportunities at a community meeting at Goshen’s Palacio Catering and Conference Center on July 7.
