Haven Restaurant in Edgewater Opens

Restaurants  /

We love chic NYC dining spots as much as the next restaurant-obsessed gal, but sometimes all that Manhattan hustle and bustle can feel like an uninvited guest at our quiet table for two. So we headed to Haven, in Edgewater, to take in a delicious meal and all the excitement of the city—without the hubbub.

Opened in late October, this riverfront restaurant and bar is serving up some seriously tasty views of the Manhattan skyline along with equally appetizing locally sourced cuisine. Upon arrival, we were taken through the warmly candlelit dining area to our table, where we promptly requested a pair of pumpkin pie martinis, just one of the delicious fall-flavored cocktails on Haven’s extensive drink menu (which thankfully includes a sub-menu of “skinny cocktails” as well), along with orders of the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare ($15) and Pretzel-crusted Fried Calamari ($14) Appetizers.

Now, onto the menu. Executive Chef Peter Larsen (of Town and Nobu Las Vegas fame) has assembled so many modern American favorites (think miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, assorted sliders, braised short ribs, pan-roasted chicken) that it took us more than one go-round on the menu to figure out which we wanted. We settled on the herb-marinated hangar steak ($29), which was accompanied by marble potato confit, baby spinach, parsley marmalade, and truffle mousseline. But as pleasurable as the food was, Haven is really all about eating up the breathtaking scenery. We loved staring out of the restaurants wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows and gazing out at the twinkling lights of Manhattan’s Upper West Side (hint: it’s even more enjoyable while nibbling on a salted caramel ice cream sundae ($9)).
