What: Cookie Decorating At Whole Foods Edgewater
Why: Nothing keeps their attention like decorating and a sugar high
When: Friday, December 21st, 4pm to 5pm, FREE! (Registration Required, ages 3 to 7)
Where:  The Cafe at Whole Foods Edgewater, 905 River Road

What: Build your own Gingerbread House at Stone Barns Center
Why:  Get the whole fam in on the action as you create a mini-manse of Gingerbread, then visit the animals on the farm. 
When: Saturday, December 22nd, check website for times, $25 includes family registration and materials. Must pre-register via the website. (ages 5 and up)

What: Visit Santa and Take a Trolley Ride in Ridgewood
Why:  Bundle up and meet St. Nick, take a trolley ride and hit the new Raymond’s for brunch- a perfect day. 
When: Saturday, December 22nd, 12pm to 4pm, FREE and Free parking too!
Where: Santa’s House in Van Neste Park, Ridgewood

What: Pole Position Raceway: Indoor Karting
Why:  Adrenaline junkies over 48inches will get a rush at this brand new indoor karting track that’s the largest in the US. 
When: Open all break except Christmas Day, prices start at $22 for non members
Where: 99 Craven Point Rd, Jersey City

What: Family Lego Workshop
Why:  If you build it, they will smile.

What: Bounce! Off Some Steam
Why:  Not your average bounce locale.  Think trampolines that will entertain young ones all the way up to adults who are kids at heart.
When: Open most of break.  Check calendar for specific open bounce times.

What: Planetarium Light Shows at the Newark Museum: “Skyquest”, “Seasons of Light” or “Tales of the Mayan Skies”.
Why:  A welcome change from your typical box office thriller (and seriously who doesn’t love a good light show?)
When: Through December 30th, check website for times, run time 40 Minutes
Where:Newark Museum, 49 Washington Street, Newark

What: Open House at Outragehisss Pets
Why: Your armadillo-chinchilla-reptile lovin’ brood will go crazy over these critters (and get an education).
When: Thursday, December 27th and Friday, December 28th, doors open at 10:30, $5 per person, live animal shows start on the hour from 11am to 4pm.
Where: The Barn, 811 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Chestnut Ridge, NY

What: Meet and Greet With NY Rangers Ryan McDonagh
Why: No hat trick.  Everyone’s favorite Ranger will be in Paramus Park in person. 
When: Thursday, December 28th 6pm to 8pm, $40 includes meet and greet, and an autograph.  Tickets on sale at Buddy’s Sports Corner, (201) 967-7727

What: 12 Days of Science at the Liberty Science Center
Why: Meet live penguins, watch the Polar Express in IMAX, meet Atka the Wolf, perform experiments like making snow and more- sure to keep them busy from morning til naptime. 
When: Through Jan 1st (closed christmas day)
Where: Liberty Science Center

What: Movie Matinees and Storytimes at the Ridgewood Library
Why: Peruse the stacks while jr. stays engaged.
When: Wednesday, December 26th through Saturday, December 29th check website for times. 
Where: Ridgewood Library, 125 N.Maple Ave, Ridgewood

No babysitter for New Years?  No problem…checkout Blue Moon Cafe’s Family NYE party or Gravity Vault’s Kids Only Bash and bring in 2013 right. 

If you’re heading into the city…...

Take a trip over the GW and visit the brand new Museum of Math (MoMath) which boasts 19,000 square feet and 30 interactive exhibits, sure to keep your whizkid’s mind sharp over break.
